I am a little afraid of eclipses, but using our hands was a fun way to "see" the sun crescent on the wall at 6:30pm May 20 2012 in Walnut Creek, California, where I was visiting on Sunday.

Mothers Day in the Kitchen Garden
We thought the City of Spokane was serious about raising water rates,
so we invested time and energy this Spring in a drip irrigation system
to grow our food this summer. At least now we can say we are ready
for the future when the City has to raise water rates
to pay for federally mandated storm water solutions.
Tri-Star Strawberries with
Amish Deer Tongue, Gentilina, Garden Babies,
and Merveille des Quatre Saison lettuce
growing in 2" of soil on top of cardboard
with underground drip irrigation.
There are four layers of sod under the cardboard.
Above ground drip irrigation set up
in Shuksan and Mignonette strawberries bed far end
and future tomatoes, peppers and eggplants beds closer.
Recycled wood rose arbor I built in 2009. Thriving thyme lawn in front
was transplanted directly on top of cardboard
with underground drip irrigation between cardboard and thyme.
